Draper Amphitheater to be Named for
Well-Known Utah Actor

(July 1, 2004) Draper City and Draper residents have joined forces to complete an outdoor family park and amphitheater located on Draper's South Mountain. The city has pledged up to $250,000 in funds to match private, corporate and foundation contributions. It is estimated that $500,000 will be needed to construct a stage, additional seating, restrooms, a park and nature trail, children's play area and pavilion. Additional funds will be needed to install lights, and sound system and other enhancements. The theater will be named 'The Robert Peterson Legacy Theater' after well-known Utah actor and baritone, Robert Peterson who passed away last December.

The theater was originally built by South Mountain developers in 1996, and donated to Draper City. It was never finished and in recent years has become a concern to area residents. Planners and advocates have as goals to provide a venue that will seat over 1100 persons and to promote the amphitheater as a gathering place for area residents and surrounding communities.

A number of fund raising activities have been planned for July, August and September including a 'Challenge Run\Walk' to kick off the annual 'Draper Days' celebration on July 10th; a day long schedule of concerts featuring many popular local bands on October 1st from 5-10 pm and a golf tournament yet to be announced. Additionally, a number of corporate partners have expressed interest in sponsoring the theater and surrounding park.

A committee of Draper residents has been formed for the purpose of raising funds for the amphitheater's completion and for long-range planning for the theater's operation. All donations are tax deductible.

Committee chairwoman, Terri Purles said, "As Draper residents we are fortunate to have this location for a park and outdoor theater. The views are incredible and the setting is nestled right into the mountainside. It's literally magic on the mountain. This theater will be a place for theatrical productions, live concerts, and much more."
